Fishing Different Water Conditions
Now that you know more about the best lures, and the best times to fish for Bass, you need to pay attention to the water. The condition of the water will affect how you fish. These general guidelines will help you get better results by paying more attention to the water quality.
Muddy Water: Muddy water reduces visibility, which means the Bass must find food using its sonar senses. Just like at night, you must use lures with the best vibration and noise. Since you can't see a lure vibrate under water, you can tell a lot about the lure's vibration by feeling the shaking of your rod as you reel in the lure. For low-visibility water use your heaviest vibrators and keep them coming at a steady pace so that bass can detect it and predict where the lure will travel.
Clear Water: Bass can't hide as well in clear water. They become extremely overly cautious in clear water because of the higher visibility. The become extremely edgy and wary of anything out of the ordinary. You will need to be more subtle in clear water. Start by using lighter lines which will be less visible. Try to keep your lure in the water longer, by using longer casts, and choose lures that mimic the Bass food in the Also, use longer casts and lures that resemble prey. Spinners can work in clear water, but if they are not working you may need to reduce the flash by trying a black spinner blade instead of a shiny one.
Normal Water: Most lake water has considerable algae and plankton that filter out sunlight. In this type of water, the Bass will be more relaxed and it is ideal for all types of lures. To find out what will work best, you can experiment by setting up 3 outfits: one using a surface lure; another using a deep diver; and the last using a plastic worm. Try each outfit by doing about 10 casts with each.
